Correcting the Record
My Position Regarding School Vouchers
PVP Watch published information about my position on school vouchers that does not accurately reflect my stance. I have reached out to PVP Watch four times to request that they acknowledge and correct the error in their reporting. Because accurate information matters, and I have not received the correction I requested, I am including this clarification in my newsletter.
I support PVPUSD’s existing eligibility provisions that allow certain students to attend district schools based on alumni, military, or grandparent connections, and other qualifying circumstances, as outlined on the PVPUSD website. These provisions are distinct from expansive school voucher programs that allow families to use public taxpayer dollars to send their children to private schools of their choosing.
I do not support expansive voucher programs that divert public education dollars to private school tuition. Public schools serve all students and are accountable to the communities they serve. Diverting taxpayer funds to private school voucher programs can place additional strain on public school budgets while districts continue to meet their responsibilities to all students.
These are fundamentally different policies and should not be conflated.
My focus is on strengthening PVPUSD, supporting our educators, protecting the programs that serve our students, and ensuring that every child has access to a strong public education.
As a proud PVPUSD graduate, parent of a current student, and Vice Chair of the PVPUSD Education Advisory Committee, I believe our district has an incredible foundation. My goal is not to reinvent what makes PVPUSD exceptional, but to build on our strengths, address emerging challenges, and ensure #APlaceForEveryChild.
Preparing Students for the Future
Today's students will graduate into a world shaped by rapid innovation, artificial intelligence, and careers that continue to evolve. Our responsibility is not simply to prepare students for their next test, but for their next chapter in life.
I believe students need both technical proficiency, as well as uniquely human and interpersonal skills that will always matter: critical thinking, communication, creativity, collaboration, curiosity, adaptability, and empathy. These skills prepare students not only to navigate change but to lead it.
PVPUSD has long been recognized for academic excellence. By continuing to invest in innovative learning opportunities while strengthening essential lifelong interpersonal skills, we can ensure our graduates are prepared for college, careers, civic engagement, and a future we cannot yet fully predict.
Safe & Supportive Schools
Students learn best when they feel safe, valued, and connected.
Creating safe schools means more than maintaining secure campuses. It means fostering learning environments where every student feels physically safe, emotionally supported, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
I believe in partnering with families, educators, students, and the broader community to promote positive student mental health and well-being, strengthen positive school culture, and ensure every child has access to the support they need to succeed. Safe and supportive schools are the foundation upon which academic excellence is built.
Fiscal Sustainability & Stewardship
Strong schools begin with responsible financial leadership. Every budget decision should reflect our values by investing wisely in the people and programs that make PVPUSD exceptional, while planning for the long-term financial sustainability of our district.
Fiscal sustainability means looking beyond annual budgets and making thoughtful decisions that preserve educational excellence for the students of today and future generations. With declining enrollment creating ongoing pressure on district finances, we need to be especially intentional about how we prioritize resources, manage expenses, and plan for the future.
It also means responsibly managing the significant long-term commitments we have already made. Measure SOS represents a $297.8 million investment in our schools, and the Board has a responsibility to ensure those funds are managed strategically, transparently, and with strong fiscal discipline. The Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee plays an important role in monitoring whether bond expenditures comply with the requirements of the measure, but the Board remains responsible for approving and prioritizing projects and overseeing the broader implementation of the program.
As a Board member, I would want to see clear accountability around bond spending, project priorities, timelines, budgets, and long-term maintenance implications. Every dollar should be evaluated not only for whether it can legally be spent, but whether it is being spent wisely and in a way that delivers the greatest benefit to our students and schools.
Fiscal responsibility also means seeking creative solutions to maximize our resources. Whether through grants, corporate partnerships, philanthropy, state and federal funding opportunities, or operational efficiencies, we should pursue additional resources that enhance educational experiences without compromising fiscal discipline.
Our teachers and staff are our greatest asset. While district budgets have limitations, we should continually explore innovative ways to support and retain outstanding educators by strengthening community partnerships and identifying additional resources that complement traditional compensation.
Responsible stewardship means taking a long-term view, asking difficult questions, and ensuring every dollar advances student success while protecting the excellence that families have come to expect from PVPUSD.
Enrollment
California's public schools are funded largely through an Average Daily Attendance (ADA) model. This means districts receive state funding based on the average number of students who attend school each day, not simply the number who are enrolled. While attendance determines funding, enrollment and attendance are closely connected. The more families who choose PVPUSD, the greater our opportunity to engage students, strengthen attendance, and invest in exceptional educational experiences.
As families have more educational choices than ever before, PVPUSD must continue to be a district they proudly choose, remain committed to, and enthusiastically recommend to others.
Growing enrollment is not simply about increasing numbers. It is about continually earning the trust of families by providing exceptional academics, outstanding teachers, safe and supportive schools, and opportunities for every student to succeed.

When every child feels welcomed, challenged, supported, and inspired, families choose to stay. When families have confidence in their schools, they become our greatest ambassadors. By investing in educational excellence, fostering a culture of belonging, and strengthening the partnership between schools and families, we can build a district that thrives for generations.
